“The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless and hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons, and sunsets smeared with too much color.”
― Natalie Babbitt, Tuck Everlasting
August brings us the Dog Days of Summer. Hot. Humid. Sticky. Almost too oppressive to get out and do anything. Here at Community Auctions, we recognize the suffering of others and continue to push through the heat. We know that our charity partners continue to need our support at all times throughout the year. Thus far this year we have raised over $400,000 in support of local charities around our nation.
We are especially happy this month to announce our new partnership with The American Cancer Society. In August we will be launching our special national easel program with all benefits going to the American Cancer Society. In a variation from our traditional table setups, the easels will feature one item which will be won by a sealed bid from the highest bidder. We will change the photo items weekly and will donate 25 % of the net proceeds of every item sold directly to the American Cancer Society. Our Fundraising Goal is to raise $100,000 for The American Cancer Society in the first 12 months of this new program.
At Community Auctions, we celebrate new beginnings and new opportunities to reach out to those in need. We honor and appreciate all of our charity partners, but highlight the ACS this month. We thank all of our charity partners, business partners, and of course our patrons who make it possible for us to have the freedom to give back to our communities.
