Community Auctions is honored to highlight our partnership with the Special Olympics this month. We are so excited that this month is the biennial World Special Olympics in Berlin from June 17-25, showcasing 24 summer sports. We are rooting for all of the local athletes in our Community Auctions markets to go for the gold!
The Special Olympics originated in 1968 with a vision from Eunice Kennedy Shriver, that all people with intellectual disabilities would be accepted and find equal rights in our society. That vision has evolved into this mission statement, “The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.” Just glance through the photos below and see how well that mission has been met!
The Special Olympics programs offer so much to their athletes, families, communities, and volunteers. What a sense of joy and accomplishment we see in the young athletes! At Community Auctions we are so proud to have raised over $80,000 so far in 2023 to help support the Special Olympics. We value their mission and wish them the best in Berlin!
