Keeping Dreams Alive

In his 17 years, Montrea "Trea" Thomas has been told twice that he had a potentially fatal disease: end-stage renal failure. After receiving a new kidney from his mother at the age of 2, Trea spent the next decade with very few complications. But in September 2015, he was re-diagnosed with the disease.

"They told us that if we had not brought him in when we did, he wouldn't be here," his mom Krystal said.

Trea endured two years of frequent dialysis treatments before he was able to receive a second kidney transplant. Today, nearly three years later, Trea is a healthy teenager who dreams of becoming an aerospace engineer.

"If it wasn't for this medical center and the people in it, I don't think we could have made it with everything we have been through," said Krystal.

Support from patrons like you make Trea's life possible. Your donated dollars make an immediate impact on the patients and families supported by charities like Cook Children's. Without the support of community partners and patrons, they would not be able to provide the very best care in state-of-the-art facilities, expand and enhance their programs, and provide assistance to the patients and families who need it most.

The culture of family-centered care and the experiences they create come from the culture of our community as a whole. Your generous support makes it possible for Cook Children's to treat the whole child - not just their diagnosis.
