Community Auctions is proud to recognize The American Cancer Society as our first national partner with our new easel program. We have raised over $45.000 for the American Cancer Society using our traditional table format since the program’s inception. However, our goal with the new nationwide easel program is to raise at least $100,000 in the next 12 months for The American Cancer Society. We are hopeful that we will be able to contribute to the ACS’s research programs and direct services to cancer patients.
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a significant health problem. Since its inception in 1913, the American Society for the Control of Cancer, ACS has dedicated itself to cancer research and support for cancer patients. Following World War II, attention shifted from international politics to domestic issues. Among these was cancer, the greatest public health enemy at the time. The American Cancer Society began a two-pronged approach to cancer—educating the public about signs, tests, and treatment while funding and encouraging breakthrough research in the field of cancer treatment. The ACS is proud to have contributed to work that has resulted in a 29% drop in the overall cancer death rate in the United States. This translates to about 500 fewer deaths each day.
