Community Auctions is proud to announce Texas Children’s Hospital as our Featured Partner this month. Texas Children’s Hospital is world-renowned in pediatric, neonatal, and fetal care. We are honored to have raised over $73,000 for them since 2019.
Texas Children’s Hospital opened on May 15, 1953, as a 3-story, 106-bed pediatric hospital. It quickly partnered with Baylor College of Medicine, and the innovations followed. Texas Children’s is ranked #1 in pediatric cardiology and heart surgery.
One of the most impressive departments at Texas Children’s is the Texas Children’s Fetal Center, where 50% of the patients are seen for heart issues. Usually noticed in a fetal sonogram, babies are sometimes treated in utero with life-saving heart surgery, while others are diagnosed before birth and treated immediately after delivery. To aid in this, Texas Children’s Hospital is physically connected to Texas Women’s Hospital to allow neonatal specialists to be present at birth and quickly give life-saving care.
A young patient who benefitted from this incredible diagnosis and care is Baby Aiden. Aiden’s heart defects showed up in a fetal ultrasound, so when he was born at Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women, the Cardiovascular NICU team was present at delivery and able to administer lifesaving care. He had his first open heart surgery at 4 days and his second just shy of 4 months old. Born with half of a functioning heart, Aiden will need at least one more surgery and will need cardiac care for his entire life. But thanks to Texas Children’s Hospital, Aiden and so many more like him have a wonderful prognosis for a long life.
